I'm Still Hungry!

Today I am doing very good on my diet but, I am still hungry. I hate this because I really don't want to be tested and/or tempted. I could be wrong but I think this feeling comes because I ate more starches this morning. I had scrambled egg on an English muffin and then I had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I know, I know, I should not have had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. But, let me assure you I did not have sugar filled jelly. I had Paloner's All Fruit Jelly and it only has 35 calories. I think it is all that bread. I really do.
Anyway, I vowed to not have starch at dinner. John called to see what I wanted with our steaks tonight. I said, "vegetables but, no potatoes." I come home and he is making mashed rutabagas. My mother has made them for Thanksgiving and Christmas every year that I can remember and I never ate them. When I entered the house I could smell them and I wanted to cringe. I immediately told him how they were probably just as bad as potatoes and he let me know he already checked and they are not. Then I said they were probably filled with carbs. He told me he did not know but he was sure I could look it up--which I was already opening the computer to find out. To my surprise they only had 11 carbs to a potatoes 30 carbs. I was losing the battle and being hungry as an ox I decided to try them. They really weren't bad. In fact I wouldn't mind substituting them more often if they are better for you. I need to do a little research on them to make sure I am not making a mistake.
Fortunately I have room--calorie wise--for some fresh pineapple and some 60 calorie chocolate pudding. I'm still hungry but I am trying to fill myself with water so I don't feel the hunger pangs. I'm sure, once I shrink this oversized stomach I will not feel this when I eat properly. At least it isn't horrible hunger pangs, just little ones.
Tomorrow is a new day and marks a full week and I intend to stick this out.

  1. good girl Mary! I was thinking you need to try more things! Have you looked at the recipe I posted on FB about quinoa? It is a grain. but Very good for you. (look it up) ;-) One of the links I posted on FB called it quinoa pizza bites and for 2 it was like 140 calories? I think? not in muffin tins, but in mini muffin tins. perfect for filling you up. we liked them so much I played around with it and made a mexican style one with corn, black beans (also very healthy) onion, cilantro, jalapeƱo, and low fat cheddar. I also used egg whites instead of whole egg. but now that I think of it, they didn't stick together as well, may need to go back to whole eggs. maybe I'll try a chinese one with waterchestnuts and soy sauce??

  4. I have a gym appointment today too. I have had quinoa and I do like it--depending on what it is in. Christy mad a pad thai quinoa with tofu that was amazing. That's a good idea to post recipes and things. I know I need to start adding pictures too. I did invite you to be an author.

  6. Had a good workout today. I say good not great, because I was 10 minutes late!! Grrr! It took me an hour and a 30 minutes to get the dog to the kennel and straight to the gym! Traffic in the AM here sucks! But I bet it does everywhere, I'm just not used to it. So I came home and tried to eat up all the food in the house before we go away for the weekend. Lucky for me, there was a small salad, and about 5 baby (I do mean baby) tomatoes. and some brussel sprouts. So I still feel good about that. I added some fresh spinach in there too.
(now go to the other blog for the rest!!)

  8. I feel like I am doing good but I actually gained 2 pounds in the last few days. It is always a little discouraging when that happens. It's like I can't get past a certain weight no matter how hard I try. I am trying not to let this bother me. The worst part is that I only just started a few weeks ago. Surely I did not hit a plateau. I also pulled a muscle or something and I can hardly sit, stand or lay down. I can't get comfortable. I went to the gym today and he had me do some stretching. It helped for a while. Guess I'll have to stretch some more.

  9. I am the same!! I go up and down 3-5 lbs every day! and I hurt myself one day and richard insisted I come in, and he did the same thing. had me stretching, and he also did a bit of massage therapy and as much as i didn't want to believe that going to the gym would help, it totally did!!
heres what I think, I haven't lost anything, I want to but I haven't. However, I feel like I look the best ever have. So, it's all thanks to the exercise, because I've 'moved' things, and toned and gained muscle. So I will keep doing it. I would LOVE to lose 10 lbs. I know I could IF i really dieted. We've totally changed the way I eat, and the way I cook. but I haven't changed the amount I eat. And if I did get out and run, I'd lose.
Just keep doing it!! You WILL see results! They crept up on me, and I was surprised.

  11. you will, don't stop!! How often are you going to the gym? I'm down to 2, but maybe come january, I REALLY want to do 4. I have no excuse. But I did only 2 for the longest time, and then one day I caught myself in the mirror and thought I was pleasantly surprised. I'd see a muscle line in my arm!! Wha!?!!?! Because the arms can get away from you too. Anyway, keep it up!!!

  12. how's it going mary?? Carol's been making me go to the gym 4 out of 6 days I've been here! But it's made me realize I need to get my butt there more often at home. I mean she's 71 this January and goes M-T-Th-F. I'm gonna do that when I get home!

  13. I don't seem to be getting anywhere although, I have not gone up so I guess that is a good thing. You do realize I have been posting besides this post, right? I know I have to get rid of excuses but I have really been busy this week. I have not made time for exercise. Between a little work and a lot of catch up with the Christmas shopping, and Adam coming into town I have not been going to bed early and then I don't make it to the gym. I am going to get back to 3-4 times a week. I am going this morning.
